Robust market research and in-depth consumer insight is a pre-requisite for success in any market – China is no exemption. An effective China strategy will rest on a profound and fact-based foundation to guide the understanding of expansion opportunities, targeted consumer segments, and go-to-market models. Official statistics and generalized data on city rankings are unfortunately neither reliable nor with sufficient depth to correctly identify opportunities and optimal sales channels.

Many entry failures in China happen because expectations are not aligned with reality; the establishment phase takes longer time, consumers behave differently, traditional sales channels are not working, etc. A couple of years down the line, significant amounts of funding has been spent with very limited results.
